Social programme

Short course BBQ dinner

For those attending the Short Course, a BBQ dinner for participants has been arranged at Cafe Catalpa, Tarrington, on Sunday evening 6th April.  Tarrington, known as Hochkirch until World War I, is a tiny village located close to Hamilton, dominated by the high tower of St Michael’s Lutheran Church.  It is also known by wine enthusiasts for its two very small vineyards, producing high quality but hard-to-get wines.  Cafe Catalpa, run by local legend Graeme Wood (known to all as “Woody”), has earned a high reputation for its cuisine.  Woody has been contracted for all the catering at this conference.

The cost of the BBQ Dinner is included in the Registration Fee for participants of the Short Course.  Others are welcome to attend on payment of an additional fee of $50.00 per person.

Happy Hour

The traditional Happy Hour, following Company Corner on Wednesday 9th April, will provide opportunities for social interaction as well as discussions with the trade exhibitors on their latest products.  The refreshments will be provided courtesy of the companies participating in Company Corner.

Conference Dinner

On the evening of Wednesday 9th April, a three-course dinner, following drinks and canapés, will be held at the Hamilton Club, 39 Gray Street, Hamilton (corner Gray and Kennedy Streets, close to the Post Office).  The dress code requires that gentlemen wear ties for this occasion.  Ties will not be necessary for the remainder of the conference.

The cost of the Conference Dinner is included in the Conference Registration Fee.  Others are welcome to attend on payment of an additional fee of $80.00 per person.

Grampians Tour

An optional one-day coach tour of the famous Grampians Mountains and surrounding countryside has been arranged to follow the conference, on Friday 11th April.  The tour will include an inspection of the impact of and recovery from the disastrous 2006 Grampians bushfires, a traditional country morning tea and visits to a superfine wool enterprise, the tourist town of Halls Gap and Bests’ historic winery at Great Western.  The tour will leave Hamilton at approximately 0830 hours, picking up participants from their accommodation in Hamilton and Dunkeld as required.  The coach will be back in Hamilton by no later than 1730 hours.

The Grampians tour is NOT included in the Conference Registration Fee, and will cost an extra $70.00 per person.  This includes morning and afternoon tea and lunch.
